An Unforeseen Eternity

The car was coming right toward me. I knew it would hit me. I knew I would die. I just had a moment to wonder what heaven would be like. I expected to see the angels and the pearly gates when I died.

What I did not expect to see was a six-year-old named Madison. I was confused until she asked, “Did you come to be my best friend?”

When her mom came in the room and didn’t see me, I realized I had died and become an imaginary friend.

We spent our days talking and having tea parties and playing with Barbies. I got to relive a lot of my childhood, and help Madison who had trouble making friends.

She was a sweet girl and offered a lot. She was just shy and couldn’t approach people and talk to them. I tried to help her, but she still had a difficult time.

We had a wonderful time. We had a wonderful time for four years. Around her 10th birthday, she met a new best friend, a real one. She wasn’t imaginary, and I was quickly forgotten.

Madison had grown up and moved on. What was I to do? I soon found out. I had to go to a room where they held us until another little kid needed a new best friend.

Within the week I was sent to meet Ivy. Next, it was Vanessa, then Alexis. I made many friends and watched them mature. It was a good death.

One day, I met Alyssa and soon it became apparent that she was my granddaughter. It was a wonderful gift. I never would have gotten to see her. She was born years after my death.

I got to watch her grow and share my wisdom and have fun times with her. She was a very creative little girl and continued to see me into adulthood. It was wonderful to watch her grow. I always wondered about the other girls, but they couldn’t see me. I am blessed that my granddaughter has never outgrown me.
