Life is a Rollercoaster
We were dangling under the track, screaming our way through the twists and turns and flips. It was exhilarating. Life was exhilarating. We were together, and it was a dream come true.
Holding hands as we sauntered through the park, we soaked in every sight and every smell and every moment. We did not want to lose one memory. This was our time. It had taken a long time for us to find each other.
We had each had our share of bumps and bruises in the relationship arena, but that was all in the past, now. Every new moment was a moment that replaced the bad ones that came before. What had we done to court the gods and cause them to smile down on us?
I was unsure what had caused Alex to decide that we should take things slowly, but I was glad he did.
“Genevieve, we have both had a lot of heartaches, but I don’t want that to touch what we have now.”
“I don’t want that, either.”
Alex bent his head, unsure what I would think of what he had to say next.
“I don’t think we should even kiss, not until we mean it, and it is a special moment. Do not think that means I don’t like you. It means I like you a lot, too much to let anything from our pasts touch us.”
As a tear snuck down my cheek, I nodded my head.
As the night began to draw to a close and the park was near to closing, we decided to end the night with a ride on our favorite coaster. As fate would have it, the coaster came to an abrupt stop, leaving us in the sky just as the fireworks began.
I grew quiet, thinking about the day we had. Mistaking my silence for fear, Alex took my hand, hoping to give me comfort. I took his hand and drew him to me. I looked in his eyes and saw the same wonder there.
I leaned over and kissed him as the fireworks exploded all around us. I could not think of a better end to our day, and he did not seem to object.
