What I hope to leave my family

I got a prompt to think about the legacy that I will leave behind for my family, and it really resonated with me. I will be a grandmother for the first time this December.

I have given a lot of thought to what legacy I hope will survive me. Some may assume that it would be my writing. The trait I hope will live on past my lifetime is kindness.

I’m certain I mess it up sometimes, but I try to always be mindful of the way I treat people. I know that everyone has their own story. That story colors everyone’s life in different ways.

I know my story has colored my life and not always a color I like.

I try to keep it at the forefront of my mind that life treats everyone differently, and everyone has been dealt a different hand.

I had time in my life where a lot of people were unkind to me, and I hope to never leave someone feeling that way.

I believe that even a small act of kindness can be a huge act in someone’s day. I try to recognize people with a smile or a hello. When I ask someone how they are doing, I genuinely want to know.

How are you doing, today?

I love to write and self-published my first book of poetry last year, a book of Haiku this year, and a book of short stories later this year!
