Uncle Fred
My husband and I had a big night planned, dinner and a musical, for our anniversary. We needed a babysitter, and the obvious choice was Uncle Fred. He was so good with the kids, and he was free.
Uncle Fred arrived and the kids jumped all over him, excited that they had an evening with their favorite uncle. He seemed excited to see them, too.
We left for dinner. It would be a beautiful, stress-free evening. It was nice to have a night without the five and seven-year-old boys. What a treat!
We had a beautiful meal at a nice restaurant then went to see Oklahoma! It was a great time, singing along with the familiar songs. When the musical was over, we decided to go out for a drink.
When we got home, we were met with a less than pleasant anniversary present. The house was a wreck, and Uncle Fred was asleep on the couch.
“Uncle Fred, what happened here!”
“I don’t know. We played a while, and I was worn out. I figured they would be, too. I turned on the TV and planned to just doze after I sent them for a nap. I guess things didn’t turn out like I had planned. I will clean this mess.”
“That will take you all night. We will help so we can get to bed.”
We cleaned in the kitchen while Uncle Fred tackled the living room. It took us a couple of hours, even though we woke the boys up and made them help.
We fell into bed, exhausted and thinking what a lovely anniversary…
And that is why Uncle Fred isn’t allowed to babysit any longer.
